I sprayed a ton of brake fluid inside the shifter because there was a lot of metal flakes and loose plastic or something.
Removing the 5 bolts that hold on the front section to look at the shaft that drives the front wheel drive.
BINGO. We found carnage. Looks like the bearing has well crumbled.
Looks like the bearing has decided to convert round bearings to ovals and some of them are completely missing all together. I'd safely say that the chunks I've found are the bearing.
Im not sure why I took this shot exactly, but I think it was to note that shift collar is still on the output of the front shaft.
Looking inside of the removed front shaft section you can see a big pile of what I would describe is a chunky, metallic and greasy glob. Bearing guts. =)
I pulled out the race way out of the front section. It didn't appear to be damaged or pitted, however Im thinking its supposed to be attached to the bearing unless its a seperate unit?
Curved edge goes inside and flat edge points towards the main case.
Pulled the shift collar off and its going in a bag with the front section after I remove the years of grime and grease.
Remove the cotter pin from the end of the output to the rear drive shaft.
Roll up a rag and stick it inbetween the gears so whe you remove the outside nut the gears will bind and you will be able to loosen.
Remove the nut. Trust me its going to take some force.
Removing the outside cover which covers the emergency brake internals. On this particular Crusier it was converted to Disc brakes and the E-Brakes where relocated as well.
