Entire unit comes out as one and heads for its own bag.

Cant forget this washer, which Im guessing acts as a spacer or for something for the shift linkage to rotate on.

Loosing the 4 rusty brown headed bolts from the backside that hold down the re-enforcement plate.

Next the 3 bolts up front near the shift arm.

Pulled the cover and the gasket looked fine. The shift arm is on the very right and the Transfercase vent tube is on the left.

This is just an angle so you can see how the shift arm connects to the shift fork down inside of the case.

After sliding the shift arm back and forth and spinning the gears I figured out the shift pattern noted in maker. Very left is High, Middle is Neutral and very right is Low range.

This is the unit for engaging the front wheels. After a bit of tinkering around I figured out that the long rod laying down with the notch in it is pulled out and pushed in. I didn't note if in was engaged or disengaged. I will when I put things back together again.

Removing the 4 bolts holding the front shifter.

Pulled the front shifter off and you can see inside the shifting fork. I also noticed inside of the Transfercase a lot of sluge looking stuff. Almost chunky looking.

I pulled the shifting rod and the fork moved in and out along with the rod.

See the debris in the bottom of the case? I wasn't sure if that was a broken piece of gasket or something else.

Doing some research on the net I was told to check the spring inside of the front shifter. I was told if it was broke it needed replaced.

Spring looks to be intact along with the shifter ball. I guess the ball acts as a ball on a ratchet. It allows for movement, but keeps things tight and makes a clicking sound when things are engaged or disengaged.
